blog TITLE: Change is a process
Entry date: Nov. 7, 2021
Change is fundamental to the human experience. And while this experience is necessary to becoming, many of us welcome it with dread or as an irritation at best. For the most part we go about our lives unaware we are indeed experiencing change that is connected to larger
societal systems. The pandemic has opened our eyes somewhat to our interconnectedness to the many societal systems across the globe that are influencing the pace of change in our lives in very personal ways. For example, changes with global systems such as supply chain, education, healthcare, and communication channels have shifted how we shop, educate ourselves, manage our wellness, and communicate with each other. For me, it feels like I’m adjusting to a “new normal” every week. The value of all this rapid change is an intense appreciation for the current moment; a “what have you done for me lately” attitude that demands an awareness of now. We
see the evidence of this in a demand for frequent changes in contractual agreements, employees migrating to organizations with flexibility to respond to demands of the week, heightened dependence on relevant data (in the moment), matrixed resourcing of talent, and ongoing training for knowledge workers to keep pace with shifting demands. Our hopeful and naïve response is to source the persistent of change back to the pandemic and convince ourselves that once the pandemic has run its course, we’ll reach stasis and change will be manageable. But, if we are wise, we will embrace change and its consequential impacts in every part of our lives as necessary to becoming better version of ourselves.
